Roy Walter Yunker Jr formally of O’Hara Township passed away in Dallas, GA following a traffic accident
on Saturday April 13, 2024. He was 58 years old. Roy was born on August 8, 1965 in Pittsburgh, PA to his
parents Roy and Patricia (Romanowski) Yunker.
Roy graduated from Fox Chapel High School in 1983. He was a National Merit Scholar and he received an
NROTC Scholarship. He attended The University of Illinois and graduated in 1987 with a B.S. in Electrical
Engineering. While at The University of Illinois, Roy participated in the Naval R.O.T.C, and was a member
of the Rifle Team. Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps. Roy was
stationed at Ft. Sill in Oklahoma for artillery training, then he was stationed at the U.S. Marine Corps
Base Command in Okinawa, Japan. In 1990, as a First Lieutenant, he joined a detachment headed to
Kuwait and was a Field Artillery Officer during Operation Desert Storm. Following the end of the First
Gulf War, he headed back to Okinawa. Roy was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1992. He lived
in Florida for a time, and then he moved to Atlanta, GA. He graduated from the John Marshall Law
School in 2008, worked as a law clerk, and then was a practicing attorney in the Atlanta Metro Area in
the areas of Criminal Defense, Family Law, and Civil Lawsuits. He also worked as a public defender, and
he volunteered at the Fulton County Veterans Court.
Roy is preceeded in death by his father Roy Yunker Sr, and his grandparents John and Elsie (Dabert)
Yunker, and Chester and Josephine (Chybrzynski) Romanowski. Roy is survived by his mother Patricia
Yunker, his sister Suzanne (Randy) Mika, and his brother John (Lisa) Yunker, his nephews Maxwell (27)
and Samuel (21) Mika, and Matthew (18) and Anthony (15) Yunker, and his niece Anna (15) Yunker.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday September 19, 2025 at Blessed Sacrament Church 800
Montana Avenue Natrona Heights, PA 15065. Burial and a Reception will follow.
