Joseph T. Horning, of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on August 11, 1933, Joe was the son of Louis and Estelle Horning, longtime owners of Horning’s Supermarket. He was a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Joe was a graduate of Har-Brack High School and went on to attend the University of Maryland on a football scholarship. An exceptional athlete, he set several records during his collegiate career and was part of 1953 Orange Bowl Championship team. In recognition of his outstanding high school and college football achievements, Joe was inducted into the Allegheny-Kiski Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. He applied his knowledge and fondness of football as coach for his sons’ football teams. Following college, Joe worked as a packaging engineer at PPG Industries before relocating to Maryland, where he continued his career with the American Trucking Association and Federal Department of Transportation. After his retirement, he returned to Natrona Heights and pursued his passion for golf. He worked at River Forest and treasured the camaraderie of the “Liars” golf group, whose friendships brought him great joy and even earned him the group’s coveted Green Jacket. Above all, Joe was a dedicated husband, father, and family man, as well as a loyal friend to many. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Gettta; his brothers, Louis and Ernest Horning; and his granddaughter, Jessica Burton. Joe is survived by his wife, Marlene Horning; his children, Debra Bourget (David), David Horning (Polly Hogue), Greg Horning (Terri), and Dana Carr (Robby); 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Joe will be remembered for his faith, his athletic accomplishments, his love of golf, and his unwavering devotion to family and friends.
