James A. Farrell, Jr

James Alfred Farrell Jr., 93, of Brackenridge, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Brackenridge, the son of the late James Alfred and Mary McMillan Farrell Sr. Jim was a lifelong resident of Brackenridge. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as a sergeant with the Railsplitters, 334 Company F, 2nd Battalion. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Argon Forest, Germany, and the invasion in Normandy, "D" Day landing at Utah Beach. Jim retired after 42 years of service from Allegheny Ludlum Steel, Natrona Plant, where he was first helper on the Cupola. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Tarentum and the Pollock Lodge No. 502 Free and Accepted Masons in Tarentum. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and building remote control airplanes. He is survived by his three daughters, Janet L. (Gene) Alexander, of Union City, Jean A. (James) Bowser, of Slate Lick, and Judy L. (Donald) Anthony, of Lower Burrell; four grandchildren, Tammy (Chris) Hill, Brian (Andrea) Anthony, Robert (Erica) Hughes and Jami (Joseph) Jacobs; and by his eight great-grandchildren, Angela Hill, Dylan Jacobs, Chase Anthony, Tyler Jacobs, Elizabeth Jacobs, Aiden Hughes, Drew Anthony and Sylas and Zander Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Dunbar Farrell, on Jan. 15, 2006; great-granddaughter, Sydney Anthony; and by his sister, Jane Glaister Metzler.
Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, 724-224-8688, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Officiating will be the Rev. R. Cameron Malcolm IV. The Masonic lodge will hold services at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township.
