Helen Barila, 94, of Natrona Heights, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in Fair Winds Manor, Winfield Township. She was born January 14, 1923, in Montreal Quebec, Canada to the late Kazimir and Anna Rafalko Barila. Helen was a veteran of WWII serving as a Seaman 1st Class in the US Navy. She was a 1955 graduate of Seton Hill College. Helen also received her masters degree in Child Development and Family Life from Purdue University, masters in Child Development from the University of Connecticut and her masters in Pediatrics and Gerontology from the University of Maryland. She retired in 1985 after 30 years of service as a school teacher for the Fairfield Connecticut School District. Helen was a member of St. John XXIII R.C. Parish in Pittsburgh. She is survived by several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Francis R. Barila; and by her sister, Genevieve Rychlik.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11 AM in St. Boniface Church, Pittsburgh, with her pastor the Rev. James W. Dolan as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt.
