Charles Michael Conroy Jr., 85, of Natrona Heights, died March 21, 2016, peacefully in his sleep after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born July 9, 1930, in Harrison, and was a lifelong resident of the area.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois (Carney) Conroy, whom he married July 19, 1952.
He is a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Natrona.
He was the first born of 10 children of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Evans) Conroy, who lived in Natrona Heights.
Mr. Conroy retired in 1988 after 39 years of service at the former Liberty Mirror in Brackenridge, where he was a senior analyst.
Mr. Conroy was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and had served with the Army Reserves from 1950 to 1953.
He earned a pilot's license while in his 20s.
Mr. Conroy was a member of Our Lady of Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Natrona Heights.
He enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach on family vacations, to Florida for baseball and traveling to Las Vegas and Atlantic City.
He was an avid sports fan.
He celebrated the accomplishments of his grandchildren, whether watching them play sports or perform in recitals or shows.
He was a devoted, beloved father of three children, daughters Lori (Randy) Lechner of Wexford, and Rebecca (David) Killian of Cheswick, and son C. Michael Conroy of St. Charles, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Lauren and Lindsay Lechner, Devin, Drew and Ryan Conroy, and Joe and Diana Killian; brothers, William of Miami, Thomas (Elizabeth) of Sarver, Robert (Dawn) of Natrona Heights, Vincent (Roberta) of Tyler Hill and sisters, Maureen ( Thomas) Hewitt of Latrobe, Margaret (Donald) Zakman of Fox Chapel, and Susan (Richard) Farrell of South Bend, Ind. and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Marie, who died in infancy; a brother, Dennis, and sister Kathleen.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 2-4, 6-8 PM, and on Sunday from 6-8 PM in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle St. Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a blessing service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM in Most Blessed Sacrament Church with his pastor the Rev. James Mazurek as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
