Brent L. Smith, 72, of Winfield Township, fell asleep with the Lord Monday, Nov. 30, 2015. He was born Jan. 26, 1943, in Ilion, N.Y., son of the late Roger D. and Lorena T. (Brown) Smith. After graduating from Utica College in Utica, N.Y., he served four years in the Air Force from 1964-1968. Brent retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) as a counselor. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in New Kensington. Brent enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening and was active in his church, especially with the food bank. He is survived by his wife, Deborah (Rykaceski) Smith; his daughters, Erica (Scott) Strasser, of Westland, Mich., and Heather (Toby) Bickel, of Bellefonte; his stepdaughter, Amy Johnson (Jason) Gourley, of Fairfax Station, Va.; five grandchildren, Aislinne Strasser (Ben) Robison, Carolinne, Madelinne and Eric Strasser and Mallory McCauley; three step-grandchildren, Mallory, Tabitha and Quinn Gourley; one great-granddaughter, Ainsley Robison; and by his sister, Carole Simpson, of Ilion, N.Y.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the CICHOLSKI-ZIDEK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights, 724-224-8688, where trisagion service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday. Funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. in St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with his pastor, the Rev. Meletios Zafaran as celebrant. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Trisagion service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
