George A. Woods Jr., 67, of Winfield Township passed into the arms of his Lord Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 14, 1948, in Natrona Heights, a son of Roberta Seminko Woods of New Kensington and the late George A. Woods Sr.
George was a 1968 graduate of Tarentum High School, going on to earn a degree in auto repair.
He was disabled veteran who served as a machine-gunner in the U.S. Army 1st Air Calvary during the Vietnam War. George was wounded in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart for bravery in action when he went into the line of fire to get ammunition for his squadron. George will be remembered for his strength and courage.
He worked for Shoup Bronze in Tarentum, Conrail of Pennsylvania and Pullman Standard of Butler before finally entering his life-long career at the New Kensington Post Office, where he enjoyed being outside and interacting with his customers on his route. George retired from the post office in 2006.
George loved to live life in the fast lane and had a passion for motorcycles, Corvettes and NASCAR.
He could often be found under the hood of his friends' cars and would be the first one to stop and help a stranded motorist along the highway. George was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver and a life member of the Saxonburg Sportsman Club.
George is survived by his wife, Virginia 'Gina' Anthony Woods; his son, Michael Paul Woods of Sarver; his daughter, Corie Elizabeth Anne Woods of Freeport; his grandchildren who he adored, Dylan Michael and Isaac Andrew Woods and Austin Michael and Journie Raiyne Dick, who will miss taking rides in Pappy's Corvette.
George also is survived by his brothers and sisters, Sandy (Raymond) Jones of Natrona Heights, Larry Woods of Lower Burrell, Cheryl Seddiki of Tarentum, Debra Sesnovich of Glen Lyon, June Woods of Apollo and Steve (Dolly) Woods of Tarentum; special friends, Wayne and Diane Beigay of Lower Burrell; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Buddy.
WOODS - Friends of George A. Woods Jr., who died Friday, July 17, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Wilson, his pastor.
Burial with full military honors accorded by the Tarentum VFW will be in the Zion United Methodist Cemetery, Winfield Township.
