Edward L. Bednar Sr.,, 95, of Natrona Heights, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, March 5, 2022. He was born April 19, 1926, in Natrona to the late John and Mary (Durkac) Bednar. Ed was a 1947 graduate of Har-Brack High School. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy. Ed retired from the maintenance department of former Gulf Research in Harmarville. He was a member of Guardian Angels Parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Natrona Heights where he served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 48 and the Knights of Columbus Council 2602 both in Natrona. Ed enjoyed working crossword puzzles, gardening, watching old westerns and could fix anything. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Irene (Zembrowski) Bednar, whom he married on September 30, 1950; children, Edward L. Bednar Jr., of Lauderhill, Florida, Carol Bednar Kramer, of Boca Raton, Florida and Marianne Glesk, of Natrona Heights; grandchildren, Anthony Glesk, Erica Lynn (Thomas) Culleiton, Karianne Glesk (Fiance`, Shawn Holmes), Ian Kramer and Christina Kramer (Fiance`,Lucas Harrington); brother, John Bednar, of Kane and by his sister, Dorothy Romanick, of Natrona Heights. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Bednar and by his infant sister, Alberta Bednar.

Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a parting prayer service will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 Noon in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church with his pastor the Rev. John B. Lendvai as celebrant. Burial with full military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
