Edward J. Sakala, 90, of Natrona Heights, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016 in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights. He was born August 17, 1925, in Tarentum, a son of the late George and Anna Steets Sakala. Ed was a veteran of the US Army serving as an MP. He retired from Glassmere Casting Company in East Deer Township where he worked as a molder for many years. Ed was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Natrona Heights. He was a volunteer for over 25 years at Allegheny Valley Hospital. Ed enjoyed gardening and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, especially the Pirates. Ed is survived by his two stepsons, Dr. Kenneth Stanko, of Pittsburgh and Bruce Stanko, of Erie; five grandchildren, Zachary, Lara, Brooke, Andrew and Matthew Stanko; two daughters-in-law, Ann M. Stanko and Rita Ann K. Stanko; and by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Staricek Stanko Sakala on October 5, 2010; stepson, Dr. Ronald Stanko; brothers, Joseph, George and Andrew Sakala; and by his sister, Irene Sadowski.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4, 6-8 PM in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a blessing service will be held on Monday at 9:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM in Most Blessed Sacrament Church with his pastor the Rev. James Mazurek as celebrant.
