Andrew Fedorenko

Andrew Fedorenko, 93, of Natrona Heights, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 in Amber Woods, Harmarville. He was born October 23, 1923, in Russellton to the late Vloss and Barbara Fedorenko. Andrew was a 1941 graduate of Springdale High School. He was a combat veteran of WWII, serving on a light aircraft carrier in the US Navy. Andrew retired after over 30 years of service as a meat cutter at the former Kroger Supermarket in Natrona Heights, and was fondly known in the community as "Andy behind the meat counter". He was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in New Kensington and the American Legion Post 48 in Natrona. Andrew was passionate in his support of his church where he worked on its construction, fund raising, maintenance and also served as a former president of the church council. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening and woodworking, and for over 50 years was involved in the Natrona Heights Little League as a coach, groundskeeper, umpire and mentor. Dad was a loving husband and an active and wonderful grandfather, always actively encouraged them in school and sports activities. Andrew is survived by his children, Michael (Kathy) Fedorenko, of Pelham, Alabama and Barbara (William) Wood, of Lower Burrell; grandchildren, Mark Fedorenko, Lisa Wood, Kristine Fedorenko and Alexis Wood; and by his sister, Priscilla (Charles) Chabal, of West Deer Township. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann (Bunish) Fedorenko on December 24, 2016; brother, Peter Federinka; and sisters, Ann Hwostow, Stella Squire, Mary Matze and Helen Mitchell.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 12 from 4-8 PM in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle St., Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where a parting prayer service will be held on Thursday at 11:15 AM. Funeral service will follow at 12 Noon in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church with his pastor the Rev. Nikolai Breckenridge as celebrant. Burial with full military honor's accorded by the Tarentum VFW, will be in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
